Do I need a hygiene certificate to tattoo, pierce or do micropigmentation in Spain?
Yes. The Hygiene & Sanitary Course (Curso Higiénico Sanitario) is a mandatory requirement to work in tattooing, piercing, micropigmentation and microblading in Spain, whatever your nationality.
Professionals must hold the Hygiene & Sanitary Certificate (Título Higiénico Sanitario) required by each Autonomous Community (Spanish region). You may also see it called the hygienic-sanitary certificate, the tattoo hygiene certificate or, informally, the Spanish tattoo licence.
This hygiene certificate is the minimum official qualification that guarantees safety and hygiene in tattoo studios and beauty centres.

The OMNIBUS Law (Law 25/2009 of 22 December) REQUIRES THE OTHER COMMUNITIES TO RECOGNISE THE CERTIFICATE.
* The situation in Andalusia
Andalusia has different legislation from the rest of Spain and Europe.
In 2017 it introduced Certificates of Professional Standards (Certificados de Profesionalidad). For a transition period, until March 2022, people could also work with the Hygiene & Sanitary Certificate.
Now you must:
If you have work experience, prove it to the Junta de Andalucía with your employment history record (vida laboral), whether self-employed or employed.
If you are starting now, with nothing to prove, you can do it through training (accrediting between 200 and 300 hours of courses, depending on the sector).
This is where our Hygiene & Sanitary Course comes in, to add hours if you fall short (our official accredited Hygiene & Sanitary Certificate counts for 46 hours).
All of this is submitted and, after a couple of months, they reply and issue your Certificate of Professional Standards.
The last option is to complete an intermediate or higher vocational training cycle.

Is the hygiene certificate valid throughout Spain and the EU?
Yes. Our diploma is accredited by EVES (Conselleria de Sanidad) and, under the Omnibus Law, it is valid in all Autonomous Communities and European Union countries by recognition (except Andalusia, which has its own specific regulations).

Do I need the hygiene certificate if I am not Spanish?
Yes. The requirement depends on the activity, not on your nationality. The hygiene and sanitary course is mandatory for everyone who carries out micropigmentation, microblading, tattooing or piercing in Spain and does not hold an intermediate or higher vocational qualification in Aesthetics (Técnico Medio o Superior en Estética). It is a legal requirement to guarantee safety and hygiene in these treatments. You can enrol with your passport or NIE.
When do I receive the course material?
You receive the study material IMMEDIATELY once you pay for the course. You have full access to the theory content and can contact your tutor on WhatsApp 24 hours a day with any questions.
Is the course in English?

What does the hygiene and sanitary course cover?
